Children’s Fun Storage Ideas

The big word for children’s rooms at the moment is ‘storage’. The older they get the more clutter they seem to accumulate until there comes the day when you’ve forgotten what the carpet looks like in their room – or even if there is a carpet!

Luckily now there is a wide range of storage available that is adaptable and versatile enough to fit into the smallest of rooms. Sometimes the simplest solutions are the best and it doesn’t take much to turn a cluttered mess into a brightly coloured, fun space to hang out. For storage shouldn’t just be practical, but fun and stylish too!

Here are some top tips to make sure that the you find the very best storage for your child’s room:

Stackable Storage

Butterfly design stacking storage boxesStackable boxes can be bought in any shape or size and can be stacked neatly in the corner of a room, taking up as little space as possible.

The benefits of stackable storage boxes is that you can build them up in any way you want and they come in many bright colours and designs. However, the downside is that you’ve got a lot of boxes to unstack if you need to get to the bottom one!

Top Tip: Stick labels onto the boxes so you know what’s inside each one.

Modular Storage

Northcote Modular StorageNow these innovative storage ideas are fairly new to the market and are proving to be surefire hits! The idea is that you get a basic frame, such as a bookshelf, and you can add to that frame matching storage boxes. You can either fill up the whole frame or leave gaps for books and toys.

The benefits of modular storage units are that they are more easily accessible than stackable boxes and make a great eye-catching addition to children’s rooms. The downside is that little ones may find it difficult to reach boxes at the top.

Top Tip: Try mixing and matching the storage box designs for a unique, fun and crazy look!

Basket Cases

Woven storage basketsBaskets are great stand alone storage ideas and very versatile. Use them for laundry, linen, soft toys and all those toys with small fiddly pieces that inevitably end up in the hamster cage.

The benefits are that they are lightweight and look great in any room! You can also put smaller baskets onto shelves or in modular storage frames. The downside is that they are not stackable nor are as robust as plastic or wooden storage boxes.

Top Tip: Round wicker baskets make great bins, especially if you pin a target onto the edge for children to aim at!

Storage Tubs and Bags

The benefits are that they are easily accessible, bags can be hung from the back of doors and small tubs and boxes can stand alone at the end of the bed. The downsides – well there aren’t any really!

Top Tip: Many storage tubs also double up as seats, providing a comfy cushion for little bums to perch on!

So you don’t have to move house or extend bedrooms to deal with an influx of clutter, children’s storage has expanded and there are many innovative and reasonably price ideas out there to suit all shapes and sizes of children’s rooms.
