It’s surprising how fast children grow and sooner or later the time will come when you want to upgrade form a cot to a proper bed. There is no perfect age for when this occurs – all kids are different after all. However, the best way to make the transition is start with a toddler bed which is just like a full-sized single bed but just a bit smaller and lower down to the floor so it’s easy to get in an out of. Ideally you’ll want a bed which incorporates a safety rail at one or both sides, just in case, but you’ll probably be surprised just how quickly your youngster adapts to his or her new sleeping space.
Budget Toddler Beds Under £100
You can find quite a selection of junior beds in the less than £100 range although you’ll usually have to buy a separate mattress which can push the price up significantly. Some retailers will sell the basic frame for a very low price in the hope you’ll buy a mattress at the same time and this is how they make a profit. It makes sense, therefore, to check if you can buy a mattress elsewhere and if it is a standard size: 700mm x 1400mm (70 × 140 cm) or 27½ × 55 inches.
